Centuries-Old Ritual Continues as Villagers Welcome Deity with Devotion and Music at Maye Pato

In a cherished annual tradition steeped in devotion and history, the revered Piso Rawalnath deity of Mashel made its symbolic journey to Maye village by boat, continuing a practice that has endured for generations.

Upon reaching Maye Pato, the god was received with heartfelt reverence, accompanied by vibrant traditional music and a grand welcome by the villagers. The air echoed with devotional rhythms, as locals gathered in large numbers to participate in the spiritual and cultural celebration.

Speaking about the origins of the ritual, local singer and cultural enthusiast Yashwant Desai shared, “There is a legend that during the Portuguese era, several deities were relocated for safekeeping and brought to Mashel. Since then, a yearly tradition was established to ceremoniously return them to their original locations—at least for a day—as a mark of respect and remembrance. That practice continues to this day.”
