Several Plaster of Paris (PoP) Ganesh idols washed ashore at Miramar beach following immersion rituals, reigniting concerns over marine pollution and the hazards posed by non-biodegradable idols.
Authorities and environmentalists have once again urged the public to adopt eco-friendly practices during Ganesh Chaturthi.
Mayem MLA Premendra Shet welcomed the government’s ban on PoP idols, but admitted that despite inspections by the Goa State Pollution Control Board (GSPCB), some idols continue to be sold, leaving buyers unaware. He said awareness is improving but stressed the need for citizens to help identify sellers to curb the practice completely.
