
Police investi gating the brutal assault on social activist Rama Kankonkar at Caranzalem have examined 14 persons linked to the assailants, placing 11 of them under preventive arrest under Section 126/170 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNSS) on Saturday. Police said the 11, though not directly involved in the crime, were taken into custody to deter them from committing offences in future.
They will be produced before the Panjim Deputy Collector and Sub-Division al Magistrate (SDM). The Agassaim police arrested three men: Par shuram Lamani (29) and his brother Shridhar Lam ani (25) of Bramapuri, Carambolim, and Anthony Jose Gonsalves of Mascar enhas Waddo, Goa Velha. The Old Goa police arrest ed eight others: Joseph Ver gies Nadar, Anil Ratansingh Chavan, Prasad Vasudev Sharma, Vipul Mahadev Folkar, David Michael Arau jo, Latif Suleman Tawai, Samuel Suresh Siddhi and Akash Deelip Vaingankar. Meanwhile, the seven accused directly charged with assaulting Kankonkar remain in police custody. In vestigators are yet to estab lish a motive, though they suspect previous enmity. Police said efforts are on to trace two-wheelers, mo bile phones and the weap on used in the crime. CCTV footage showed one gang member filming the attack, but the device has not yet been recovered.
