MARGAO: The Salcete police have intensified security measures ahead of Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations, set to begin on Saturday, September 7. Sub-divisional police officer Santosh Dessai chaired a meeting with the office bearers of Sarvajanik Ganeshotsav Mandals across Salcete to discuss the security plans.

A comprehensive security strategy has been developed to ensure safety during the festivities. Dessai stated that an adequate police force will be deployed at key locations to prevent any untoward incidents. Salcete has five police stations—Margao, Maina- Curtorim, Fatorda, Colva, and Cuncolim—and officers will be stationed in all these areas. The deployment will also include personnel from the Indian Reserve Battalion (IRB) across the region.

There are over 32 Sarvajanik Ganeshotsav Mandals in Salcete, and they have been instructed to enhance security measures at their pandals, including the installation of CCTV cameras. Fire and electrical safety checks are also mandatory, with fire department units stationed at key locations to ensure public safety.

Police patrolling teams and deployment will be present around Ganesh pandals to maintain order. Dessai urged the public to cooperate with the police and remain vigilant, particularly against theft when leaving their homes for Ganesh celebrations. He also advised residents to inform both the police and neighbours if they leave their homes unattended during the festival.

A senior police officer added that all Ganeshotsav venues must be equipped with fire-fighting equipment.
