GSPCB Issues Warning to Units Operating Without Mandatory Permissions

PANJIM: The Goa State Pollution Control Board (GSPCB) has stated that units operating without mandatory permissions would be issued closure direction.

In a public notice, GSPCB member secretary Dr Shamila Monteiro has said operation of the units or establishments without the valid consent and authorisation of the GSPCB amounts to violation of the Water (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Act, 1974, and the Air (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Act, 1981, and the Rules under the Environment (Protection) Act 1986 and shall be liable for issue of closure directions.

“Those establishments having valid consent to operate of Board are required to display the details of the consent at their respective premises,” Monteiro said.

As per the notice, hotels or guest house resort or motels, restaurants, washing centres, banquet halls or open air halls or party venues, marriage halls, saw mills, diary of 15 animals and above, Gaushalas, poultry of 5,000 and above birds, piggery with 15 adult pigs and laterite quarries are some other establishments listed in the notice.
