Pomburpa-Olaulim Residents Protest Mega Projects Amid Water, Power, and Waste Woes

Residents of Pomburpa-Olaulim have raised serious concerns over the rising number of large-scale construction projects being approved by the local panchayat, despite the village struggling with basic infrastructure issues.

At a gram sabha held on Sunday, locals questioned the panchayat’s decision to continue granting permissions for mega housing and commercial developments while the village faces an acute water crisis and lacks adequate electricity and waste management facilities.

Residents demanded accountability and clarity from local authorities, expressing frustration over the prioritization of construction over the welfare of the existing population. “How can the panchayat approve new buildings when we don’t even have enough water for our homes?” asked one of the attendees at the meeting.

Villagers argued that the infrastructure in Pomburpa-Olaulim is already under severe strain, and additional projects would only worsen the situation. They also pointed out that unchecked development could lead to long-term environmental degradation in the area.

Calls were made for a moratorium on new project approvals until core civic needs—such as reliable water supply, consistent electricity, and systematic waste disposal—are adequately addressed. The gram sabha concluded with a strong message from the residents urging the panchayat to review its planning and ensure development does not come at the cost of sustainability and quality of life.
