PONDA: Commuters and passengers at KTC Bus Stand in Ponda can finally breathe a sigh of relief with the inauguration of a new toilet complex, replacing the old, dilapidated facility that had caused significant inconvenience.
The previous toilet complex had been non-functional for extended periods and was frequently closed over the past year, leading to difficulties for passengers, conductors, drivers, and KTC staff. The plight of commuters was highlighted by consumer activist GOACAN convenor Roland Martins to the Deputy Collector.
The new toilet facility was inaugurated by Power Minister Ramkrishna ‘Sudin’ Dhavalikar. Constructed at a cost of Rs 47 lakh by the Sewerage & Infrastructure Development Corporation of Goa Ltd (SIDCGL), the facility is designed to serve for the next 30 years. It includes special arrangements for transgenders and physically disabled persons.
Bandora Sarpanch Ramchandra Naik, ZP Member Ganpat Naik, other panch members, and the Goa In-Charge of Sulabh were present. Dhavalikar emphasized that the completion of the new toilet block within a year of laying the foundation stone was a crucial step given the closure of the old facility.
