Poriem tense over Devasthan issue

VALPOI: Tense situation prevailed at the Sakhaleshwar Devasthan (associated with the Bhumika Temple) at Poriem as villagers resorted to road blockade and stone pelting over the issue of religious ceremony on Friday morning.

A PSI was injured in the stone pelting by the irate villagers.

As a precautionary measure, Sattari Deputy Collector and Sub-Divisional Magistrate Pallavi Mishra, IAS on Friday clamped sections 148 and 163 BNSS 2023, ban on gatherings of five or more unauthorized people, in the jurisdiction of and ordered to lock the Shree Bhumika Devasthan Temple, till December 24. The prohibitory order will be in force till 5.30 pm on December 23.

For the last four days, there have been clashes between the group of villagers over the issue of organising celebration of the Sakhaleshwar Dev Vad Diwas. On Friday, the trouble broke after a group of villagers took strong objection to the celebration organised by a faction of other villagers, who are also learnt to be the managing committee of the temple.
