Portion of Antão Building Collapses in Margão Amid Heavy Rains; Locals Urge Action on Dilapidated Structures

A section of the Antão building near Ciné Lata in Margão collapsed on Saturday morning following continuous heavy rainfall. The portion that gave way was part of the gallery, and the structure was reportedly in a severely dilapidated condition. Fortunately, no injuries were reported in the incident.

Local resident Vivek Naik expressed concern over the deteriorating state of many old buildings in the area, urging authorities to take immediate action. “The government should seriously address the issue of old buildings collapsing and provide rehabilitation to those still living in such unsafe structures,” he said.

Several buildings in Margão, particularly those constructed in the late 1960s, are showing signs of structural fatigue. Residents fear that more collapses could occur if preemptive measures are not taken. Locals are calling on the government to initiate surveys, repairs, and relocation efforts to prevent further incidents.
