In a swift and focused operation, Porvorim Police arrested Kishorbhai Macchi, alias Ajay Ranpariya (44), a repeat chain snatcher from Gujarat, for stealing a gold chain worth ₹1.8 lakh in PDA Colony. The incident occurred on July 24, when the accused posed as a courier delivery agent, approached a woman, snatched her chain, and fled the scene.
Police quickly launched an intensive investigation using CCTV footage and technical surveillance, which led them to a guest house in Calangute, where Macchi was apprehended. The arrest reflects the department’s strong resolve to tackle street crimes swiftly and effectively.
Under interrogation, Macchi confessed to the PDA Colony snatching, and also admitted to committing a similar theft in Saligao in June. A deeper probe uncovered his criminal history in Gujarat and Rajasthan, linking him to multiple chain-snatching cases, confirming his status as a habitual offender.
The investigation is ongoing, with police exploring potential links to other unsolved thefts across Goa. Authorities are coordinating with their counterparts in Gujarat and Rajasthan to build a watertight case and trace possible accomplices or networks.
The police have urged the public to stay alert and report any suspicious activity, emphasizing the crucial role of community cooperation and surveillance in preventing crime. Macchi’s arrest has brought relief to local residents and serves as a strong warning to criminals operating across state borders.
This case underscores the impact of rapid reporting, effective use of technology, and inter-agency collaboration in safeguarding public security. The Porvorim Police remain committed to cracking down on such crimes with zero tolerance.
