Goa's electricity consumers may soon see a nearly 6% increase in their power bills, starting this financial year, if a new proposal by the Goa Electricity Department (GED) is approved. The department has submitted a petition to the Joint Electricity Regulatory Commission (JERC) seeking a phased tariff hike over three consecutive financial years — 2025–26, 2026–27, and 2027–28.
As per the petition, the GED has proposed:
A 5.95% overall hike in tariffs for FY 2025–26
A 5.64% hike in FY 2026–27
A 4.88% hike in FY 2027–28
However, the department has assured that there will be no further tariff increases in 2028–29 and 2029–30. These proposals are part of a comprehensive five-year business plan, covering the period from April 2025 through March 2030.
The proposed hikes will impact all categories of consumers, including domestic households, raising concerns about the potential financial burden on residents and businesses alike.
The JERC will now review the petition and decide whether to approve the tariff structure laid out by the department. If cleared, the hike could take effect as early as this year, marking the beginning of a three-year stretch of rising electricity costs in Goa.
