OThe recent kidnapping attempt on a Margao based businessman has exposed the dark underbelly of Margao. The case has come as a grim reminder of the Swapnil Walke murder case of 2020. While Police are looking out for the hired men involved in the kidnapping attempt the residents of the commercial capital of Goa are now concerned of their security.

The kidnapping according to sources is an fall out of a soured financial and property deal between two friends and business partners from Margao, both who are gold merchants.

According to sources the victim Kunal Raikar and main accused Reuben Vernekar who has been named by Raikar as the person who ordered the kidnapping were involved in a financial deal. Raikar who owed money to Vernekar had been delaying for a long time. It is also said that Reuben had threatened Raikar at his home at gun point if he did not pay the money on time.

Later, sources in Goa Police suggest that both were called to by the police. Raikar had assured of giving back the money which he failed to do.

The attempted kidnapping by Vernekar is said to be a desperate attempt to recover his money.

The incident has recalled memories of the Sept 3, 2020 incident in which prominent city jeweller Swapnil Walke, was shot, then stabbed multiple times,  by a group of three robbers, in his jewellery shop and died bleeding on the footpath outside his shop, in broad daylight in Margao.

Though the Police have remained tight-lipped in kidnapping attempt matter there is a lot of pressure on the Margao Police to track down and arrest the accused persons as both the victim and the accused are influential persons.
