PWD to Crack Down on Illegal Roadside Stalls in Bardez and Pernem from May 21

The Public Works Department (PWD) is set to begin a major enforcement drive against unauthorized roadside vendors in Goa’s Bardez and Pernem talukas starting May 21. The operation will target illegally placed carts, stalls, and gaddas along the periphery of public roads.

This initiative follows a directive issued by the High Court of Bombay at Goa and a subsequent circular from the Principal Chief Engineer, Chief Engineer (NH, R&B) of the PWD. The order mandates the clearance of all unauthorized encroachments that obstruct traffic flow and compromise road safety.

The crackdown aims to restore clear road margins and ensure pedestrian and vehicular safety, particularly in busy areas where informal vendors often take up space on roadsides. Authorities have been instructed to carry out the removal process systematically and in coordination with local law enforcement.

The PWD has also advised vendors to voluntarily vacate the areas to avoid penalties or forced eviction. The operation is expected to cover all major roads and junctions in the two talukas, with similar actions likely to follow in other parts of the state based on compliance reviews and court directives.
