MARGAO: In a bid to empower women and promote entrepreneurship, the Chinichinim-Deussua village panchayat has launched several initiatives, including workshops, skill development training, and support for small businesses.

These programmes are designed to equip women with essential tools and resources to succeed in entrepreneurial ventures, fostering economic growth and independence within the community.

One recent initiative, in collaboration with the Rotary Club of Margao Sunrise, focused on traditional culinary skills through a short-term training programme on masala making. Held at the local community centre, the workshop attracted women keen to learn the art of blending spices and crafting traditional masalas, reflecting the Konkan coast’s rich culinary heritage. Participants were guided by resource person Jyothi Naik, who shared techniques and authentic flavouring methods.

“This workshop not only aims to enhance culinary skills but also encourages women to explore food production as an entrepreneurial opportunity,” stated village sarpanch Frank Viegas.

The Rotary Club of Margao Sunrise supported the programme with essential resources, underscoring their commitment to community development. “Empowering women through skills training is a priority for us, and we’re pleased to partner with the panchayat for this initiative,” said Rotary Club representative Flory Gracias.

Feedback from participants was overwhelmingly positive, with many expressing enthusiasm for the skills gained and the potential to launch their own masala businesses.
