MARGAO: To check drug menace in the village, the Rachol panchayat has knocked at the doors of the local police and the parish priest for assistance to fight against this social evil.
Sarpanch Joseph Vaz, along with panch members recently visited the Our Lady of the Snows, Rachol to discuss the situation with Parish Priest Fr Anthony Rodrigues.
“We have requested the Parish Priest to assist the panchayat in fighting against the drug menace and anti-social elements, especially the late-evening migrant visitors who have been carrying out anti-social activities at the ferry point, ‘Old Doko’, in front of the chapel, and along the khazan bandhs, often under the guise of fishing,” Vaz explained.
The panchayat has also approached the police, requesting increased patrols and enforcement action to maintain law and order in the village.
“Rachol panchayat members are united and vow to work together to make our village a model of sustainable development, preserving its beautiful green environment. We will not allow mega projects or the entry of more migrants into our village,” Vaz stated firmly.
This effort aims to address the growing concerns amongst local residents over the nighttime disturbances and anti-social behaviour in Rachol at places like the ferry point.
