Railing Near Road at SGPDA Market Sparks Safety Concerns, No Setback Maintained

Concerns are mounting over a newly installed railing along the main road at the SGPDA wholesale fish market, which reportedly violates safety norms by not maintaining the mandatory 3-metre setback.

Social worker Milagres Fernandes has drawn attention to the issue, warning that the proximity of the railing to the busy road, especially in the absence of adequate street lighting, could lead to accidents at night.

Fernandes also pointed out that during peak morning hours, vehicles are often illegally parked along the road, further narrowing the space for traffic movement. He stressed that if the area around the market were properly maintained, it could be developed into a designated parking zone, easing congestion and improving overall safety.

He has urged the authorities to review the current railing placement and take necessary corrective measures to prevent potential mishaps.
