PANJIM: The heavy rains that lashed Goa on Tuesday, further exposed the condition of roads in Panjim which are already in pathetic condition.

The people had a tough time negotiating the pothole-ridden roads as they remained submerged due to heavy showers.

The road in Bhatlem, the one near All India Radio at Altinho, the stretch connecting St Inez junction to Goa Pharmacy College, the route near Azad Maidan, the one near Cafe Bhosle and the stretch from Cafe Bhosle to Old Patto bridge, were hardly visible.

The city residents questioned as to why are the roads which are in a pathetic state, not being repaired.

Speaking to O Heraldo, Asif Abdul Karim, a resident of Tamdi Mati, said, “The rains have exposed the condition of the city roads, which are already in pathetic condition. Whether it is Bhatlem road or the one near St Inez junction or near Cafe Bhosle, the condition of all the roads is the same. It is painful that in spite of the roads used by our elected representatives too, their condition remains the same. These potholes are simply being ignored.”

Rajan Silim Khan, a resident of Portais, said, “The road connecting Bhatlem to St Cruz was repaired to some extent in May this year, but it could not withstand the heavy rains and developed potholes. Though rubble soling has been done, people, especially motorists, are losing their balance and falling.”
