PANJIM: The Mapusa have arrested four Rajasthani natives, including two minors allegedly involved in the burglary at Nasnodkar Jewellers in the Municipal market on September 23. The quartet was picked up from Sindhudurg, Maharashtra as they were proceeding to Ajmer via Netravati Express.

The accused have been identified as 26-year-old Harji Chauvhan and 18-year-old Bhavani Singh from Ajmer, Rajasthan.

Addressing a press conference, North Goa Superintendent of Police Akshat Kaushal said," The Mapusa Police have successfully apprehended an inter-state burglary gang that was responsible for committing a major theft in a jewellery shop at Mapusa."

"Earlier on Saturday night, the gang had made an attempt to break into the shop but the owners. CCTV footages were analysed and a search was launched to nab down the suspects. We were unable to recognise the accused as they had covered their faces then. However, two of the accused who were found moving in suspicious condition at night were photographed by police on night patrol before the robbery which helped them to zero down on the criminals."

Kausahal said,"The CCTV trail led the police to Thivim Railway Station. Photographs of the accused were flashed on all trains and they were eventually traced on Netravati Express."

"12 kgs of silver and 1 kg of gold valued in crores was recovered from the accused," said police.

An offence under section 331 (4) and 305 (a), read with 3 (5) of BNS 2023, has been registered. While two of the minors involved in the theft case have been sent to the protective home, the other duo has been remanded to police custody. The case is being investigated by PI Nikhil Palekar, under the supervision of SDPO, Mapusa, Sandesh Chodankar and overall supervision of SP, North, Akshat Kaushal, IPS.
