In a major crackdown on illegal meat trade, the Ramnagar Police intercepted a vehicle and seized 1,930 kilograms of beef allegedly being smuggled from Karnataka to Goa for illicit sale. The confiscated meat is estimated to be worth around ₹6.75 lakh.
According to police sources, the vehicle was stopped during a routine patrol after officers grew suspicious of its movement. Upon inspection, a large quantity of beef was discovered, packed and concealed for transport across state lines without proper documentation or permits.
Two individuals were arrested in connection with the smuggling operation. Authorities suspect the beef was headed to Goa’s black market, where illegally traded meat continues to raise concerns over public health, regulatory violations, and animal welfare laws.
Police have registered a case under relevant sections of the Goa Animal Preservation Act and other applicable laws, and further investigations are underway to trace the supply chain and identify others involved.
Officials have reiterated their commitment to cracking down on such illegal activities and warned of strict action against anyone found violating interstate trade and livestock transportation norms.
