In a truly unique and educational initiative, Chandrabhaga Tukoba Naik Higher Secondary School hosted an extraordinary pen exhibition featuring the rare and historic collection of Shaker Naik, a passionate collector who has been preserving writing instruments since the age of 10.
The exhibition, a first of its kind in the region, showcased pens that date back over 100 years, including the legendary Boru pen, once used during the era of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. Naik’s collection spans various states across India and includes pens ranging from as little as ₹1 to ₹45,000, reflecting not only historical value but also his lifelong dedication to preserving vintage treasures.
In addition to pens, the exhibition offered glimpses of Naik’s wider collection, which includes vintage cameras and rare coins, further enriching the cultural experience for visitors and students alike.
The core mission of the exhibition was to promote the use of traditional, eco-friendly writing instruments, encouraging the younger generation to shift away from single-use plastic pens and adopt sustainable alternatives. This message struck a chord with students and faculty members.
“We see different kinds of exhibitions being held across the state. However, an exhibition of pens is something we’ve had for the first time, and it gives me immense joy. Every pen has a story to tell,” said Sugandha Bhat, Principal of CTN College.
The event was not just a visual treat but also a meaningful educational experience, reinforcing the importance of sustainability, heritage, and curiosity in learning. It also served as a call to action for young minds to appreciate and preserve the tools of the past, which continue to shape our future.
