Even at the height of the monsoon, the taps have been running dry in our village. Every afternoon, the water just vanishes from the taps putting the public to inconvenience. The villagers never ever faced such problems over the years. Come rain or shine, the village always had a regular supply.
The drought in the monsoon however has begun only after mega projects have started mushrooming in the village where water is allegedly used for construction purposes. Even at the height of Ganesh Chaturthi festivities, water failed to trickle down the taps. If this is the case during the monsoon, one wonders what will happen in summer.
The PWD however is quick to send bloated bills and disconnection notices to villagers. Will they please depute officials to the village to see which developer 'drinks' the water everyday as we suffer?
Mega projects have been sanctioned even in the Command area of the Tillari Irrigation projects. It is reportedly learnt that there are between eight and ten swimming pools in each project. Some of the developers have even sunk illegal bore wells to use water for construction purposes. The result is wells in the neighbourhood have started to run dry.
Will the village panchayat of Siolim-Sodiem act before we die of thirst? Villagers should unite and gherao PWD officials for failing to cater to the needs of villagers.
