Remo Fernandes Recovers After Burr Hole Surgery, Jokes About ‘Hardcore Punk’ Look

There’s is some good news for fans of Goa’s beloved pop iconRemo Fernandes, as the pioneer of Indian pop music, following his discharge from the hospital after undergoing an urgent Burr Hole Procedure, finally posted on Facebook to thank his ardent followers for their messages of concern, good wishes and prayers.

In his Facebook post, the pop icon said “Discharged from hospital and back to Belinda’s house, where she’s beautifully looking after me as I convalesce and gradually get back to normal and hopefully better. Am I looking like a real hardcore old Punk, stapled scalp and all, or am I?”

Remo added, “Once again thanks, thanks a million for the 1,600 messages of concern, good wishes and prayers when I first announced the operation; and only 700 messages when I announced it’s 100% success a few days later. Were the rest disappointed that it wasn’t a more ‘exciting’ finale, I wonder?”

It may be recalled that the pop icon underwent the surgery to treat a life-threatening brain condition following a fall in Spain. Due to the health risks associated with flying so soon after surgery, Remo cancelled his much-anticipated performance at the UK-Goan Festival in London, scheduled for August 3, leaving his fans shocked.

The 71-year-old musician initially felt fine after falling in his hotel room, but in the weeks that followed, he developed persistent headaches and balance issues. An MRI scan later revealed a progressively worsening subdural hematoma — a condition in which blood collects between the brain and skull, dangerously increasing cranial pressure.

Following consultations with neurosurgeon Dr Oscar Alvas in Porto, Portugal, Remo was advised to undergo immediate surgery as the bleeding was worsening rapidly. The burr hole procedure, a minimally invasive technique, involved drilling a small opening in the skull to drain the accumulated blood and relieve pressure.
