The matter concerning the statue of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj at Sanguem Children’s Park, situated in front of the church, has ignited conversations among the residents of Ward No. 4 Dando.
They convened a meeting with their councillor, Iqbal Sayad, to inquire why he did not consult them prior to endorsing the statue's proposed location.
To address this issue, they propose alternative sites, including the center of the bus stand or in front of the Bhausaheb Bandodkar statue.
Nevertheless, Councillor Sayad has declined to provide any guarantees concerning a revision of the decision.
Gilbert Fernandes inquired of the Councillor why the local residents were not consulted regarding the selection of the site for the statue of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj.
The Councillor however responded that he did not consider it necessary to involve them in the decision-making process.
The site selected for the statue is situated in close proximity to the church, stated Gilbert.
