The Revolutionary Goans Party (RGP) has officially withdrawn its support from the Azossim-Mandur panchayat after occupancy certificates were approved for a controversial mega project in the village. RGP MLA Viresh Borkar announced the decision at a Panaji press conference, expressing frustration over being left out of the loop regarding the certificate approval. Having opposed the project from the start, Borkar condemned the panchayat’s move as a betrayal of trust and a clear violation of the party’s stance against large-scale developments. He revealed that he first learned about the approval through a newspaper report and subsequently summoned Sarpanch Prashant Naik to formally notify him of the withdrawal of RGP’s support.
RGP President Manoj Parab reiterated the party’s firm position, stressing that major decisions, especially concerning large projects, cannot be taken unilaterally by sarpanches—even if they have RGP backing—without consulting the local MLA and party leadership.
Although Sarpanch Prashant Naik is not an RGP member, he relies on the support of three RGP-aligned panchayat members, including Deputy Sarpanch Tejaswi Naik. This development has escalated political tensions in Azossim-Mandur, sparking speculation about a possible no-confidence motion against Naik by the RGP-backed members. The issue has drawn the attention of residents and political analysts, who are closely watching for any further moves following the party’s withdrawal of support.
