Rs 100 Entry Fee at Bhati Waterfall Angers Sanguem Locals Over Lack of Facilities

The Bhati Waterfall in Sanguem has sparked widespread resentment among residents after authorities imposed an entry fee of ₹100 per person, applicable to both tourists and locals from Sanguem taluka—while only Bhati Panchayat residents are exempted.

Many Sanguem locals have voiced their frustration, questioning why they must pay to access a natural attraction situated within their own constituency. Community members are demanding that the government extend free entry to all Sanguem taluka residents, similar to the policy granted to Bhati villagers.

The fee has also been criticized as excessive, given the lack of basic amenities at the site. The waterfall still does not have toilets, women’s changing rooms, seating benches, or proper road connectivity. Despite being located less than a kilometer from the main road, infrastructure improvements have remained negligible.

Residents and tourism stakeholders have further warned that the steep charge is already discouraging visitors, which could lead to a decline in tourism revenue for both the local community and the government. Many believe reducing or waiving the fee for locals could boost footfall and help develop the area’s economy.
