PANJIM: The Valpoi Police on Tuesday said that they have managed to recover Rs 43 lakh from the husband wife duo from Honda, Sattari, who were arrested last month for cheating people to the tune of crores of rupees on the pretext of selling properties in Goa and Maharashtra.

The accused, identified as Vijaynath Gawade, and his wife, Vidisha Gawade, have several complaints of cheating filed against them.

According to police, the couple’s modus operandi was to lure investors into buying properties in Bicholim or Dodamarg using fake documents.

They would gain trust by issuing cheques or affidavits, only to later deny or fail to hand over the property or return the money, police said.

According to police, a bank without any bills accepted the gold and mortgaged the same.

So far four cases have been filed against the couple, two cases at Valpoi Police Station and one each at Bicholim and Ponda Police Station

The police have urged those who may have been duped by the couple to come forward and file complaints. The couple is currently out on bail.
