Ruckus in Goa Assembly Over Mhadei Water Diversion; Opposition Slams Govt Inaction

The Goa Legislative Assembly on Monday witnessed intense scenes as the opposition raised strong objections over the state government's handling of the Mhadei river water diversion issue.

The ruckus broke out during Question Hour when opposition MLAs stormed the well of the House, demanding an immediate discussion on the diversion of Mhadei waters to Karnataka and alleging gross inaction by the government in protecting Goa’s lifeline.

Leader of the Opposition and other MLAs slammed the government for its failure to file a contempt petition against Karnataka despite clear Supreme Court directives. "The government is sleeping while Karnataka continues to divert Mhadei water illegally," said one MLA, calling the inaction a betrayal of Goans.

The Speaker struggled to maintain order as the opposition continued their protests, accusing the state government of allowing irreversible damage to Goa's environment and water security. The demand for a dedicated discussion on Mhadei was ultimately denied, further fueling tensions in the House.
