Raising concerns about the placement and design of National Highways (NH), particularly NH66 in Goa and how the use of rumbler strips and the routing of the highway through residential areas is causing significant noise pollution and contributing to accidents at Damdeavado, Chinchinim. The sound vibrations reverberation from the road disrupt the lives of senior citizens and people with health issues, especially at night. The authorities have not responded to the requests to measure the noise levels (decibels) even on payment. There have been four fatal accidents and hosts of serious mishaps linked to these rumbler strips.
The only proposal is for the removal of the rumbler strips and suggest that a more viable solution would be addressing blind spots at junctions, rather than adding temporary fixes like signboards or lights.
The call is for responsible design of highways and better attention to noise pollution in residential areas, with proper studies and actions taken to reduce risks and disturbances.
