The Salaulim Dam in Sanguem is nearing its full capacity, with water levels expected to reach the overflow mark by tonight, according to officials monitoring the reservoir.

The popular dam, known for its scenic surroundings, serves as a crucial water source for South Goa and has also become a major attraction for both tourists and locals. As rainfall continues in the region, the rising water level has drawn attention from across the state.

Authorities are closely monitoring the situation and have advised residents in low-lying areas downstream to remain alert, although no evacuation orders have been issued yet.

"The dam is approaching its maximum capacity. Overflow is expected by late evening if rainfall continues at the current pace," a senior Water Resources Department official stated.

Visitors have begun gathering near the dam site to witness the anticipated overflow, which often transforms the location into a visual spectacle. However, officials have urged the public to exercise caution and avoid venturing too close to the spillway zone for safety reasons.

The dam’s overflow typically marks the onset of peak monsoon activity in Goa, and authorities are ensuring all flood-control protocols are in place.
