VASCO: A Special meeting of the Sancoale village panchayat has been convened at the panchayat office at 10 am on Monday, October 14 to elect the new deputy sarpanch.

The post of the deputy sarpanch fell vacant after Girish Pillai resigned on September 16, as per the mutual agreement between the majority panchayat members.

According to information available, panchas Derick Vales and Maurelio Carvalho are likely to file their nominations for the deputy sarpanch’s post. The deputy sarpanch’s election assumes importance as Vales is representing the Savarfond ward where the ‘controversial’ Bhutani project is proposed and Maurelio is from the opposition group, who are demanding revocation of the construction licence issued by the village panchayat to the project.

Meanwhile, Nicolas Quadros, extension office (rural engineering) from Mormugao Block Development Office (BDO) has been appointed as the presiding officer for the election.

Meanwhile, the fortnightly ordinary meeting of the Sancoale village panchayat called at 10:30 am on October 18 is likely to be stormy over the issue of construction licence to ‘controversial’ Bhutani Infra project.

During the last ordinary meeting held on September 25, the panchayat had passed a resolution to issue a show cause to notice to M/s Parmesh Constructions Company Limited (Bhutani), asking it to comply with the Mormugao Planning and Development Authority (MPDA) regulations including submission of necessary documents and NOCs within seven days. A large number of villagers had also stormed the panchayat office during the meeting.
