A devastating fire broke out late at night at the residence of Mrs. Rohidas Gonkar in Velipwada, Sanguem, caused by a gas cylinder explosion. The fire rapidly spread, completely destroying the house. Fortunately, there were no casualties, as the house was vacant at the time. Mrs. Gonkar and her daughter Teja had decided to stay at a neighbour’s house that night for safety reasons, which ultimately spared their lives.
After this terrifying disaster, Mrs. Gonkar and her daughter have appealed to the government for urgent financial assistance. They have specifically requested that their case be included under the Shramdaan Yojana, a community-based initiative for housing construction, to help them rebuild their home.
The fire has left the mother and daughter without a home, destroying all their belongings, including clothes, food, and essential household items. They now depend on community support and widow welfare schemes for their daily needs, facing extreme hardship, with shelter and basic necessities entirely reliant on the kindness of others.
