PONDA: Curti-Khandepar Sarpanch Harish Naik has responded to concerns raised about hill cutting at the crematorium site in Deep Nagar, Curti, which some fear could lead to disastrous landslides similar to those seen in Wayanad. Naik assured that a retaining wall would be constructed alongside the hill cutting site to protect the hill and prevent potential landslides.
O Heraldo recently highlighted the risks posed by the extensive hill cutting undertaken for developing the crematorium land at Curti, bringing the issue to public attention. While Naik acknowledged the risks, he clarified that the decision to proceed with the hill cutting was made before his tenure as Sarpanch. However, he admitted that the situation could indeed lead to a Wayanad-like calamity if not addressed.
Addressing concerns about encroachments on the crematorium land and road by migrants, Naik stated that action would be taken based on complaints once a proper survey and demarcation of the land are completed. "As soon as the demarcation is done, we will identify any illegal encroachments, serve notices, and take appropriate action. We will not tolerate illegal structures on the crematorium land," he affirmed.
