A protest organized by the Saligao Block Congress Committee turned tense on Thursday after a scuffle broke out between Congress workers and the police outside the Mapusa Sub-District Office.

The protestors gathered to submit a memorandum demanding immediate road repairs in the Saligao constituency. However, tensions escalated when no official was present to accept the memorandum, prompting the protestors to move towards the building.

The situation quickly spiraled when police personnel stopped the group from entering, resulting in a brief clash. In the melee, Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) North Goa President Virendra Shirodkar reportedly had his shirt torn, further fueling outrage among party members.

Congress leaders condemned the incident, calling the police action high-handed and demanded accountability from the district administration. The protest was eventually dispersed, but party members have vowed to continue pressing for urgent infrastructure improvements in the area.
