PANJIM: In response to the rising threat of cybercrime across the State, an awareness session aimed at empowering the community with essential cyber security knowledge will be held on October 29 at the Surendrababu Timblo hall, Panjim from 3 pm to 5 pm.

This critical session will be led by Cybercrime Police Station PI Vidyanand Pawar, who will focus on providing practical solutions and awareness to every section of society, from senior citizens and students to business professionals and homemakers.

The event is organised by the Goa Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GCCI) in collaboration with the Rotary Club of Panjim.

The event will address several key areas such as cyber awareness for senior citizens, safety measures for students, insights for business leaders and professionals and current cybercrime statistics and global trends.

The need for this event has been underscored by recent news of cybercriminals fraudulently impersonating as MLAs in Goa, targeting individuals with requests for money by posing as officials.

This high-profile case highlights the pressing need for increased cyber literacy and vigilance, as impersonation and social engineering scams grow increasingly sophisticated.

With cybercrime cases on the rise, Goa has seen an alarming increase in incidents of online fraud, financial scams, and social media exploitation.

The global rise in cyber incidents has affected economies and individuals alike, with cybercrime costing the world economy approximately $1 trillion annually. These incidents have far-reaching impacts on individuals, businesses, and even government agencies.

Recent data highlights that, while technology has advanced, so has the sophistication of cyber threats, with vulnerable populations such as senior citizens and youth becoming frequent targets of cyber frauds.
