MARGAO: The South Goa Planning and Development Authority (SGPDA) decided to address several key issues, including the long-awaited tender for sopo collection and the inauguration of the first phase of the newly constructed wholesale fish market.
Krishna alias Daji Salkar, Chairman, SGPDA clarified that the space outside the compound falls under the jurisdiction of the Planning and Development Authority (PDA) and stated that in the past, the PDA had been collecting sopo fees from the vendors operating in this area.
However, he stated that the matter is currently pending, and they are now awaiting the Collector's decision on how to move forward with the issue. Salkar assured that further action will be taken once the decision is received.
The monthly meeting, chaired by Salkar, Chairman of SGPDA, also deliberated on the auctioning of 20 plots owned by the authority and the proposal to increase the sopo fees at the retail market.
Salkar informed reporters that the process for floating the sopo tender for the wholesale fish market had been completed and would be opened by the end of January.
“We have not set any specific conditions, but the PDA may request advance payment for three or six months from the successful bidder as security for the contract,” Salkar said and added that a previous tender had been reverted due to unresolved issues.
Regarding the auctioning of plots, Salkar revealed that the PDA owns nearly 36 plots in Dhaveli and has now decided to auction around 15 to 20 plots in an effort to become more self-sufficient. “This issue has been pending for a long time,” he noted.
