Tourism Minister Rohan Khaunte stated that the government will take strict action on the shack owners who have sublet their shacks to non-Goans by terminating their licence permanently. Due to subletting to non-Goans, there has been a steep rise in crimes in the coastal belt.

On Monday, Tourism Minister Rohan Khaunte stated that the department has cracked down on illegal shack rentals, revealing that 110 shacks have been sublet in various categories. Out of all the shacks, 6 shacks were found to have sublet their shacks to outsiders, to which their license have been terminated.

In the other category, Shack owners who have given ownership to their family owners will not face any charges. Around 50 shacks were found who have leased out shacks to family members. Whereas, the issue of 23 shacks who have leased out their shacks to a Goan who is not their family member, was discussed with the Chief Minister as this category does not fall into their policy.

The department is finding a solution to this issue in the next two months. But they also do not have the permission to operate shacks in the coming season if the department does not clear their documentations,
