PANJIM: Shankar Chodankar and Sanjana Velip were elected Adhyaksh (chairpersons) of North Goa Zilla Panchayat (ZP) and South Goa Zilla Panchayat, respectively, on Monday.
They were declared elected unopposed as there was only one nomination for the respective posts. Both the posts had fallen vacant following the resignations of Siddesh Naik (North Goa ZP) and Suvarna Prabhu Tendulkar (South Goa ZP) last month, as per the mutual agreement between the ruling ZP Members.
Chodankar was elected from Mayem ZP constituency while, Velip is representing Guirdolim ZP constituency. Both were elected on Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) ticket the ZP elections held in December 2020.
After being declared elected, Chodankar thanked all the ZP Members for reposing their faith in him and assured them that he will take all them into confidence in development works.
North Goa ZP chief executive officer (CEO) Ajay Gaonkar informed the Members that the office of North Goa ZP will be shifted to spacious premises at Gomantak Maratha Samaj hall, Panjim, soon. Nearly 80 per cent has been completed, he said.
Currently, North Goa ZP office is situated on the fifth floor of Junta House, Panjim.
