Published on

The fact-finding committee appointed by the Goa government to investigate the tragic Shirgao stampede has submitted its final report to the Chief Minister’s Office on Thursday evening, sources confirmed. The incident, which occurred during a large temple festival earlier this year, drew widespread public concern over crowd control and emergency preparedness.

According to officials familiar with the matter, the report is conclusive and includes a detailed analysis of the incident, identifying key lapses in crowd management and infrastructure. The committee has also made several recommendations aimed at preventing such tragedies in the future.

Though the findings have not yet been made public, sources indicate that the panel has emphasized the need for enhanced coordination between local authorities, police, and festival organizers, along with improved medical preparedness, designated evacuation routes, and real-time crowd monitoring systems.

The government is expected to review the report in detail and may soon announce policy or administrative changes based on the committee’s suggestions.

The Shirgao festival draws thousands of devotees each year, and the recent incident has prompted renewed calls for stricter event safety protocols at religious gatherings across the state.
