President of the Shree Lairai Temple Committee, Devidas Gaonkar, has announced that the temple will provide financial assistance of Rs 1 lakh to the families of devotees who lost their lives during the tragic stampede at the Lairai Zatra. The decision comes as a gesture of support and solidarity with the bereaved families, following an incident that claimed six lives and left several others injured. Gaonkar emphasized the committee’s commitment to standing by the victims’ families during this difficult time, stating that the temple’s resources would be mobilized to ensure timely assistance.
In addition to announcing financial aid, Gaonkar addressed the recent fact-finding committee’s report on the stampede. He made it clear that the Shree Lairai Temple Committee does not accept the allegations made against it in the report, particularly those suggesting non-cooperation with the district administration. Gaonkar asserted that the committee had fully cooperated with authorities throughout the festival and would formally review the report once an official copy is received.
He also mentioned that further decisions would be made in consultation with the temple’s stakeholders. The committee’s dual approach, offering support to affected families while defending its actions, reflects its resolve to provide relief while seeking to clear its name amidst ongoing scrutiny.
