PANJIM: Two elderly siblings were found dead in their home at Quitla, Aldona, on Thursday evening. While one of them had died due to consumption of poison or drugs, the other person was found hanging from the ceiling. The deceased have been identified as Sebastian Cardozo (68) and his sister Avalina Cardozo (72).
Police were alerted about the case when they got a call from a local person informing them about the incident. On reaching the house, they found Avalina motionless on the bed, while Sebastian was found hanging from the rafters of the house with a coir rope. A suicide note was reportedly recovered, leading police to suspect a murder-suicide case.
According to preliminary findings, Avalina may have died after consuming poison or due to an overdose of medication. Police suspect that Sebastian may have killed his sister, who was unwell, before taking his own life. Sources revealed that Avalina, who was unmarried, lived alone in Quitla, while Sebastian resided in Bastora with his family. On Thursday, Sebastian reportedly called a friend to pick him up in the evening before heading to his sister's house in Quitla. The post-mortems have been completed and investigation is still underway.
