South Goa MP Captain Viriato appointed to India’s Defence Committee

MARGAO: South Goa MP Captain Viriato Fernandes was nominated to India's Defence Committee. The Parliamentary Secretariat released the list of nominees, which includes Opposition leader, Congress MP Rahul Gandhi. Captain Viriato's nomination is seen as a significant milestone, owing to his 26-year tenure in the Navy and his experience in the Kargil war. He is the only war hero in the current Lok Sabha and has been decorated with the Vijay Star medal.

With his diverse experience in marine engineering, aviation, and a strong educational background including degrees in mechanical as well as aeronautical engineering and a double MBA, Captain Viriato is expected to contribute significantly to the Defence Committee. He expressed his gratitude to the Indian National Congress and Rahul Gandhi for the nomination and has assured to work towards strengthening the Defence forces when it comes to decision making and shaping of policies. The Defence Committee will be headed by Radha Mohan Singh, member of Lok Sabha and National Vice-President of the BJP.
