Two Goa Police Officers Face Pay Reduction for Failing to Register FIR in 2015 Harassment Case

The State Police Complaints Authority (SPCA) has taken action against two Goa police officers for their failure to register a First Information Report (FIR) in a harassment case filed by a woman against her in-laws. The complaint, which involved allegations of abuse, harassment, and assault, dates back to 2015.

After reviewing the case, the SPCA recommended a 'reduction in the time scale of pay by one stage' for the officers involved—Police Inspector (PI) Sinari and Police Sub-Inspector (PSI) Dhiraj Devidas. Both officers were stationed at the Old Goa police station at the time the complaint was filed.

The woman, who had been subjected to mistreatment by her in-laws, sought police assistance, but the officers failed to take appropriate action by not registering the FIR. This negligence led to the SPCA's recommendation, aimed at holding the officers accountable for their dereliction of duty.

The decision highlights the importance of proper handling of complaints and serves as a reminder to law enforcement officers about their duty to protect and serve the public, especially in cases involving serious allegations such as harassment and assault.
