A portion of the compound wall of St. Britto’s School in Mapusa collapsed on Sunday, causing damage to three parked two-wheelers and partially affecting a residential house adjacent to the school premises, according to local reports.
The incident, which occurred during heavy rainfall, led to debris falling onto a narrow passage where the vehicles were parked. Residents reported a loud crash and rushed out to find the motorcycles buried under the rubble. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.
The house next to the collapsed wall sustained partial structural damage, with cracks observed in the outer wall and boundary area. Local authorities and school management visited the site to assess the situation.
Fire and Emergency Services personnel were deployed for clearance operations, while the Mapusa Municipal Council is expected to conduct a structural safety inspection to prevent further mishaps.
Residents have demanded immediate repairs and better maintenance of old boundary walls, especially in high-density residential areas vulnerable during monsoon.
