A 35-year-old man, Pankaj Gauns, a resident of St Cruz, was found dead in a pond near a field in the same area on Thursday morning.
According to preliminary information, Gauns had reportedly entered the pond to retrieve fishing nets he had set the previous night. It is suspected that he accidentally drowned during the process.
Locals discovered his body and alerted the authorities. Police and emergency services rushed to the spot, and the body was later shifted for post-mortem examination to determine the exact cause of death.
While there is no indication of foul play at this stage, a case of unnatural death has been registered, and further investigations are underway.
Gauns was well known in the locality, and his sudden death has left the community in shock.
