St Inez Gets Infrastructure Boost as IPSCDL Completes Concrete Road Project Ahead of Deadline

Published on

In a significant milestone for urban infrastructure under the Smart City Mission, Imagine Panaji Smart City Development Ltd. (IPSCDL) has successfully completed the construction of a high-quality concrete road at St. Inez, meeting the High Court-mandated deadline of May 31, 2025. The road is now open to the public, marking a major step forward in Panaji’s ongoing transformation.

A key highlight of the project was the completion of a particularly challenging 200-meter stretch between Taad Maad and the Tonca Sewage Treatment Plant (STP). This segment involved intensive underground work, including the installation of a 710-mm diameter trunk sewerage line—an upgrade expected to significantly improve sanitation and wastewater management in the area.

In addition to laying the sewer line, IPSCDL constructed manholes, house connection chambers, utility ducts, and service crossings. Close coordination with multiple utility departments ensured that essential services such as water, electricity, and gas remained uninterrupted throughout the project.

The team also overcame complex geological conditions, including loose soil and a high water table. To manage these challenges, engineers deployed advanced dewatering systems and reinforced shoring techniques to safely stabilize the excavation zones.

Notably, IPSCDL demonstrated a strong commitment to heritage preservation and environmental sensitivity. The shrine at St. Inez and the iconic banyan tree beside it were left undisturbed throughout the construction process.

The completed road features a durable, high-grade concrete surface, along with newly built footpaths to improve pedestrian safety. The upgraded corridor is now fully traffic-ready, promising smoother vehicular flow, better stormwater drainage, and a safer travel experience for all road users.
