PONDA: The locals of Curti-Khandepar on Tuesday said that they prioritise stability over frequent changes in the Sarpanch’s position to ensure the continuity of development projects and address long-standing issues.
They suggested that
stability at the panchayat level is crucial for
effectively addressing the problems affecting the villagers to achieve ward-wise development.
They suggestion comes after the panchayat got
its fourth Sarpanch in Abijeet Gaude, who was elected unopposed during the current term
The 11-member Curti-Khandepar Panchayat has been witnessing a musical chair game for Sarpanch’s post as eight sarpanchas were changed during the previous tenure.
Normally, sarpanchas are changed following a mutual understanding or by moving no confidence motion or via resignation.
The Sarpanch’s post fell vacant following the resignation of Harish Naik and prior to that at the beginning of the current tenure Naved Tehsildar and Sanjana Naik enjoyed the post.
Sandeep Parkar, a local, emphasised the need to resolve the demarcation of crematorium land for different religious communities to prevent conflicts.
He said that there is
a need for a bus stop for students at Khandepar Junction.
Another local Rocky Dias said, “We can understand if we get another sarpanch, in case he doesn’t work and a no confidence motion is moved. But here even after a few months, some panch members for the sake of prestige want to enjoy the Sarpanch’s post.”
He highlighted ongoing challenges such as truck parking issues, incomplete service roads, malfunctioning street lights, and the stray cattle problem.
He said truck parking is still haunting locals. Some service roads are still incomplete on the highway and at some places on the highway, street lights are not working.
Besides, the stray cattle problem is not yet solved. To solve the issues permanently stability at Panchayat is important.
He said to ensure the development of wards, it is not necessary for every panch member to become the Sarpanch.
He stressed the importance of stability with a single Sarpanch for fostering unity among Panch members and facilitating development works.
