PANJIM: The State government has notified more areas under the jurisdiction of the Corporation of the City of Panaji (CCP) as pay parking. The notification was issued after the CCP Commissioner wrote to the North Goa District Collector proposing to notify the places as “Pay Parking” in Panjim City Phase-IV for two-wheelers and four-wheelers in CCP's jurisdiction.
According to the notification, the new areas which have been notified include Miramar Circle, near Sulabh Toilet (Miramar Beach), near Maruti Temple, Miramar, the stretch of road from Caculo Islands near Pharmacy College via St Inez Church up to Culvert near Thomas Garage at St Inez (Mahatma Gandhi road and Vassudev V Dempo road), the stretch of road from St Inez Cemetery upto High Mast near Madhuban building St Inez, Dr Dada Vaidya road, Dr Braganza Pereira road (Municipal Quarters to Kala Academy/D. B. road) and Gama Pinto road (Municipal Quarters to Hotel Palacio).
“Parking space shall be reserved for two and four-wheeler vehicles of Persons with Disabilities (PwDs). In case parking is full, no double parking on the road shall be allowed. The access to the residential houses, business premises and other buildings should not be blocked,” the notification said.
The notification shall be applicable 24 hours on all days, within the jurisdiction of the CCP.
“Parking in No Parking Zone, double parking, parking on footpaths, parking on Zebra Crossing, parking at the entrance of a residential building having parking facilities shall not be allowed,” it said.
As per the notification, the vehicles carrying fish to the fish market shall not be allowed to park in the designated parking lots, as there is spillage of water from those vehicles, which results in unhygienic conditions and foul smell.
The notification has said that all the pay parking lots should be painted with thermoplastic fluorescent paint to keep sufficient space for the drivers to alight or enter the vehicle.
“Persons or attendants engaged in collecting parking fees shall be compulsorily wearing proper uniform prescribed by the CCP and display proper Photo ID Cards with unique numbers issued by CCP which shall be displayed on the person. The attendant shall also carry a certified copy of the rate chart notified by this authority for showing to the citizens as and when demanded,” it said.
On January 17 this year, the CCP had approved the contract for phase three of the pay parking in the City. The second phase of pay parking was notified in September 2020 while the first phase was notified in 2019.
Meanwhile, CCP sources said that it will take at least three to four months to get the fourth phase of pay parking implemented.
