In a commendable effort to uplift marginalised sections of society, the Baagwada Vikas Samiti, in collaboration with the Ummid Centre, Baagwada Sanvordem, recently organised a distribution drive aimed at supporting women and underserved families in the region. The event saw the distribution of sewing machines and umbrellas to needy individuals—primarily widows and unemployed homemakers—helping them take steps toward financial independence.
The programme was graced by former Rajya Sabha MP Vinay Tendulkar and ex-MLA Deepak Pawaskar, who lauded the initiative. Their presence not only lent weight to the occasion but also served as a motivating force for the beneficiaries. Both leaders praised the Samiti and Ummid Centre for their dedication to grassroots empowerment and urged continued focus on women-led development.
The stitching machines are expected to provide recipients the opportunity to earn a livelihood through tailoring work from home—particularly beneficial for women unable to take up employment outside. The umbrellas, a timely addition ahead of the monsoon, offer immediate relief to those navigating daily life in the rainy season.
Organisers emphasised that true community progress lies in empowering women with practical tools and sustainable opportunities. “We hope this small step gives these women the means to stand on their feet,” said one of the organisers.
The event was met with appreciation and optimism, as recipients expressed gratitude for the support and a renewed sense of hope for the future. Initiatives like these highlight the power of local collaboration in tackling socio-economic challenges and creating lasting impact at the grassroots.
