Stray cattle roaming the road freely have made life unsafe for commuters in Cunchelim at the Gotnicho Val road.

A number of abandoned bovines often squat in the middle of the road at night and refuse to budge thus posing a threat to motorists.

There have been several fatal accidents reported in the past.

At night, most of the streetlights fail to function and commuting along the road is dangerous as it is difficult to spot the animals sitting on the road.

There are High Court guidelines to handle bovines which the civic bodies fail to implement in letter and spirit.

The strays needed to be shifted to the gaushalas in the public interest before precious lives are lost.

The Mapusa Municipality should also keep a check on farmers leaving their animals on the road and initiate action against them too. Domesticated animals should be tagged and strays should be sent to the gaushalas at the earliest.
