Sanjana’s journey, once marked by despair and isolation, has transformed into a moving story of resilience and hope. Her life first came to public attention when Herald TV reported her wandering the streets of Panjim. The coverage stirred compassion among locals and prompted swift intervention by the Goa Police, who rescued Sanjana and ensured her admission into Street Providence, a rehabilitation centre for the homeless and mentally challenged.
The early days were far from easy. Adjusting to a structured environment while dealing with severe mental health challenges posed immense difficulties. Yet, Sanjana’s recovery began to take shape through a combination of medical treatment and compassionate care. With regular psychiatric support from the Institute of Psychiatry and Human Behaviour (IPHB), adherence to prescribed medication, and access to nutritious meals, she slowly regained stability.
At Street Providence, a nurturing and home-like atmosphere played a crucial role in her healing. Caregivers provided not just supervision, but empathy and encouragement, allowing Sanjana to feel safe and valued once again. Alongside medical treatment, a holistic rehabilitation plan was put in place. Physiotherapy sessions improved her physical well-being, counseling sessions helped her process past traumas, and therapeutic classes fostered personal growth and self-expression.
